Amber is one of the six official Ink colors of Disney Lorcana.[1]
Most cards belong to 1 of the six available ink colors. Dual Ink cards exist but are a rare occurrence, first added since Archazia's Island. Deck building restrictions in Core Constructed format allow up to 2 different ink colors in a deck in no particular proportion. Other Formats allow for any combination of colors.
Nature
Amber glimmers are purposeful. Patient and dedicated, they're able to pursue causes and ambitions with single-minded persistence. They often work within communities, either from above as a leader or from within as a healer, bodyguard, or just a loyal follower.
Amber ink embodies the spirit of healing;[2] those who harness the ink are defensive and are dedicated to their teammates. Glimmers summoned with this ink protect their friends at all costs,[3] serving as bodyguards, healers, or cards that directly affect other cards.[4] This ink values the aspect of community, emphasizing patience, dedication, and a sense of belonging and responsibility.[4]
Amber ink can also represent amplified aspects of protection, such as persistence and ambition. Amber Glimmers will not always be protective; they will be relentless and stop at nothing to pursue their cause.[5]
Amber is represented by the color yellow or gold. Its icon is a shield with an interconnected notch to symbolize its interconnected and team-oriented discposition. Ravensburger Creative Director Shane Hartley shared more characteristics for Amber Glimmers, stating that Amber "purposeful, patient and dedicated". As they often work within their community, the icon was inspired by knots and weaving to illustrate the strength found by working together. The whole is greater than the individual."[6]
The Amber Chromicon and Amber Coil induce remedying effects on their user, helping them overcome physical and emotional burdens.
“Comfort the weak and weary.”
–Inscription
Martin smiled as the coil snapped into place and he felt a surge of healing energy.
Mechanics
Amber inks are essential in protecting and healing other Amber ink cards in the deck; as such, they specialize is support abilities such as Bodyguard, Support, and Healing.
Bodyguard
Amber glimmers have access to the Bodyguard keyword, as seen on Goofy - Musketeer, Maximus - Palace Horse, and Simba - Protective Cub. It shares this keyword with Steel.
Card Draw
Amber glimmers do have access to small amounts of card draw if tied to another Amber mechanic, as seen on Rapunzel - Gifted with Healing, Stitch - Carefree Surfer, Stitch - Rock Star, and Ursula's Shell Necklace. The amount of card draw seems to be more than Sapphire's card draw, but less than Amethyst's or Steel's.
Character
Amber glimmers are friendly to character cards. For example, they can recover character cards from the discard pile, as seen on Hades - Lord of the Underworld or Part of Your World. They can search their deck for a character card, such as on Be Our Guest. They can reduce the cost of character cards with Just in Time or Lantern.
They also can care about the number of characters in play, such as on Stitch - Carefree Surfer. The card LeFou - Bumbler also cares if a specific character is in play or not.
Stitch - Rock Star also cares about characters of a certain cost.
Musketeers
Amber glimmers care about the Musketeer classification, as seen on Goofy - Musketeer. It shares this ability with Steel.
Princesses
Amber glimmers care about the Princess classification, as seen on Cinderella - Gentle and Kind and Moana - Of Motunui.
Villains
Amber glimmers care about the Villain classification, as seen on Hades - King of Olympus.
Discard
Amber glimmers can force their opponents to discard cards, as shown on You Have Forgotten Me. It shares this ability with Emerald.
Healing
Amber glimmers have the ability to heal damage, as shown on cards like Cinderella - Gentle and Kind, Goofy - Musketeer, Rapunzel - Gifted with Healing, Timon - Grub Rustler, Hakuna Matata, Healing Glow, and Dinglehopper. It shares this ability with Sapphire, although Sapphire's healing is less frequent and less powerful.
Lore Increase
Amber glimmers can increase their own lore, as shown on Hades - King of Olympus. Unlike Ruby and Sapphire, an Amber glimmer only increases its own lore, not those of others. Steel also has this limitation.
Ready
Amber glimmers can ready their exerted characters, as shown on Moana - Of Motunui. This comes with the downside of being unable to quest. It gets this ability less frequently than Ruby.
Revenge Banish
If an Amber glimmer is banished in a challenge, they may banish the opposing character. This is seen on Prince Phillip - Dragonslayer. Unlike Emerald, an Amber glimmer only has this ability when initiating the challenge themselves.
Shift
As Shift appears on all Floodborn cards, this includes Amber glimmers such as Hades - King of Olympus and Stitch - Rock Star.
Singing / Songs
Amber glimmers have access to the Singer keyword, as shown in cards like Ariel - Spectacular Singer and Cinderella - Gentle and Kind, and Sebastian - Court Composer.
They also can search the deck for songs, as seen on Ariel - Spectacular Singer. And can gain bonuses for playing songs, such as on Ursula's Shell Necklace.
Despite this, the card Ariel - On Human Legs is unable to sing, despite being an Amber glimmer.
Strength Reduction
Amber glimmers can reduce opposing characters' strength, as seen on Maximus - Relentless Pursuer and Control Your Temper!. It weakens the strength less than Sapphire does.
Support
Amber glimmers have access to the Support keyword, seen on cards like HeiHei - Boat Snack and Maximus - Palace Horse. Unlike Sapphire, Amber can only have the keyword itself, and not grant it to others.
