Shanzay is one of the protagonists in Disney Lorcana. A young girl with purple hair and the third new Illumineer introduced to Lorcana (after Venturo and Martin), Shanzay is the free spirit of the trio. She seems to be versed in the written word, having a notebook to write on, even while walking.

Personality

Shanzay is shown to be an artistically-gifted individual with an interest in poetry and creative writing. Her interest in poetry, or perhaps her "spirit" as a poet, is what supposedly helps her in casting with Amethyst and Steel ink. Based on the teaser, she seems to be a struggling writer and was initially unsure about speaking up in front of a crowd. After being summoned to Lorcana, Shanzay gained the confidence she needed to express her true talent as a storyteller.

History

Shanzay sees the chamber of the Great Illuminary for the first time.

One night, after a very unsuccessful stage poetry appearance in an almost empty venue, Shanzay was walking back dejectedly scribbling notes in her journal. In the alley, she was met with a blinding light that transported her to the realm of Lorcana. Upon arriving to Lorcana and finding her way inside the Great Illuminary, she meets Martin and Venturo in a room with a giant mechanism towering overhead which captures story stars. She was then directed to an Inkcasting Station, where she found a pen-like Inkcaster. Effortlessly, she was able to summon a Hercules Glimmer.

During the events of The Flood, Shanzay witnessed from a brass-railed platform atop the Hall of Lorcana how a red spellbook and other items were carried away by a wave of ink. She makes her way to a balcony overseeing the Inklands just in time to observe the spilled ink changing the lands below.

• The first Disney Lorcana teaser, "The Magic Begins", featured an unidentified Illumineer summoning Sorcerer Mickey at the Great Illuminary. When posed the question about the Illumineer's identity, Chris Page confirmed that the Illumineer was an early prototype of Shanzay that created as a placeholder character for the trailer before her design was finalized.
• She embodies the Amethyst and Steel inks, as reflected by her choice of clothing favoring the colors purple and black/gray.
• Chris Page estimates Shanzay to be in her late teens or early 20s.
