A Game is an encounter between either two or more human players against each other or at least one human player against an Illumineer's Quest scenario. In order to be considered a legit game, certain requirements most be met:

  • Each player must have a deck built according to the rules.
  • Each player needs a way to track their lore totals. This can be any method players find convenient that is clear to all players in the game.
  • Each player needs a way to mark damage on characters and locations. This can be any method players find convenient that is clear to all players in the game.

Game Setup

Starting a game involves several steps that all players follow. Once these steps are completed, the game is considered to be started:

Each player will then take these steps in the following order.

  1. Determine a method for randomly determining who chooses who is the starting player and takes the first turn of the game. If this game is next in a multiple game series (such as a best-of-three), the losing player of the previous game chooses the starting player.
  2. Shuffle their Deck.
  3. Set their Lore to 0.
  4. Draw 7 cards for their starting hand.
  5. Alter their starting hand, starting with the player who is going first.

Alter Hand

Players may alter their hands, beginning with the starting player. Each player can alter their hand only once in each game. It is recommended that a player alters their hand if they do not have many cards with Inkwell icons or if too many of their cards have a high Cost. The steps to alter a starting hand are:

  1. The player selects any number of cards from their hand and places them on the bottom of their deck without revealing them.
  2. The player draws until they have 7 cards in their hand.
  3. In turn order, each other player completes steps 1 and 2 if they choose to alter their hand.
  4. Each player who altered their hand by 1or more cards shufes their deck.
  5. Each player who altered their hand ofers an opposing player a chance to cut their deck.

The term Mulligan has been borrowed from other Card Games to describe this process, although the term itself has the connotation of having another chance to perform an action during the game, not before it.

Game Start

Once all players have altered or chosen not to alter their hand, the game officially starts and the turn of the first player commences, starting with their Beginning Phase. The players take turn until a Win Condition is met.

Quick Start Guide - Ending the Game.jpg

There are two ways for a player to win in a game of Disney Lorcana.

  • When a player reaches 20 lore, they win the game.
    • In a Illumineer's Quest game, all players must reach 20 lore in order to declare a victory. Ursula declares a victory upon reaching 40 lore.
    • In a Pack Rush game, a player needs only 15 lore to win the game.
  • If a player attempts to draw a card from an empty deck, that player loses the game. Any abilities or effects waiting to resolve that belong to a player who loses the game are immediately removed. If this occurs in a multiplayer game, the game continues. If it was the losing players turn, the game progresses to the next players turn after any other effects have been resolved.

Your goal is to be the first player to gain 20 or more lore.
Some card abilities give you lore, but the most common
way to gain it is by playing characters and sending them on
quests.
