Each turn is divided into two phases.
During the Beginning Phase, players take these steps in order.
- READY — The player Readies their Exerted cards by turning them upright. This applies to Character cards and Item cards that are in play, as well as any cards in that player's Inkwell.
- SET - Any card effects that take place at the start of a player's turn take place during this step.
- DRAW - The player draws a card from the top of their deck. On the first turn of the game, the first player skips this step.
This video provides a demonstration of what happens during the Beginning Phase.
