Lore
As an Illumineer in the wondrous realm of
Lorcana, you’ll wield magical ink to summon new
versions of Disney characters, items, and locations
which are called glimmers. These glimmers—some
familiar, some fantastic—will help you as you race
across Lorcana to find and collect missing pieces of
lore. Endless quests await!
- Quick Start Rules
Characters from the many songs and stories made by Disney are recorded in a treasury named "The Great Illuminary". Players take on the role of an Illumineer - A powerful sorcerer that has the ability to bring these characters to life. Illumineers will then bring a band of their favorite Disney characters together to adventure in this world.[1] In Disney Lorcana, illumineers use magic inks to summon Disney characters as glimmers.[2] Two or more illumineers will face off against each other by summoning the characters by drawing them with magical Ink from their Illumineer station and send them on quests to gain lore.[3]

Gameplay
What Kind of Game is This?
The Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game is a
strategy card game where each player makes
their own deck before the game starts, and the
decks aren’t mixed together. You can play with
one of the available ready-to-play decks, make
changes to one of those decks, or build a deck
that’s entirely your own!
In a game like this, cards can allow you to do
things that aren’t normally a part of every
turn. If a card’s text ever contradicts the game
rules, follow what the card says.
- Quick Start Rules, p.1
Players take turns playing cards from a personal deck of at least 60 cards.[11] The contents of these decks depends on the Format being played, however in the most basic format the player must chose and add cards of up to 2[12] from the 6 different Ink colors.[13]
Organized Play
Organized play for Lorcana has been confirmed to be complete with tournaments and in-store events.[14] Promo cards are available via The First Chapter Organized Play Kit
Ryan Miller has recommended that events are ran in a best 2 out of 3 games format.[15]
Trademark
The trademark of Disney Lorcana was first filed on December 14, 2021,[16] then announced via a press release on August 30, 2022, on Polygon,[1] with the first cards revealed at the D23 Expo.
Game Design
Disney Lorcana is co-designed by both Ryan Miller and Steve Warner. They were both involved in product and gameplay design, including Magic: The Gathering and Duel Masters (and its remake, Kaijudo).
Trivia
"Project Famous"[17] was the codename for Disney Lorcana when development commenced in March 2020.[18]
