Gen Con
Gen Con is an annual tabletop game convention held annually at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, USA.
Gen Con 2023
Disney Lorcana participated in Gen Con 2023, where a Gen Con 2023 promotional card was given out at the event. The Mickey Mouse - Musketeer promotional card which has the Gen Con 2023 Mark was given out to everyone who participated at the Disney Lorcana TCG ticketed events and visitors who purchased Disney Lorcana products at the Disney Lorcana booth.[1]
This was also the first time ever that the public had access to Disney Lorcana products where the following were available for sale from The First Chapter:
- Booster Display (24 packs): $143.76
- Individual Booster Pack: $5.99
- Starter Deck: $16.99
- Deck Box: $5.99
- Card Sleeve Pack: $9.99
- Neoprene Play Mat: $19.99
- 10 Page Portfolio: $19.99
The Enchanted rarity cards were also first announced in-line with the convention where an Enchanted Seeker contest was announced in conjunction with the announcement.[2] The first person to open each unique Enchanted rare card from The First Chapter and then post it on Twitter with the #EnchantedSeeker hashtag, were invited to a special event held on the final day of Gen Con 2023.
The 12 winners were invited to participate in a multiplayer Sealed Deck event where they got to play with the Lorcana game development team, get photos with the team and get their cards and playmats signed.[3]
During the convention, a series of ticketed events[4] were held including:
- Disney Lorcana Learn-to-Play Demo
- Disney Lorcana Casual Play
- Disney Lorcana Starter Deck Challenge
- Disney Lorcana TCG Gen Con Finale!
The Starter Deck Challenge was a 3-round casual tournament where participants used a random copy of The First Chapter Starter Deck to participate. In the event, they were allowed to use the 12 cards they open from the single The First Chapter Booster pack which is included in the Starter Deck, with no Ink limitations.
The top 8 players of the Starter Deck Challenge were invited to the Gen Con Finale event and awarded with a playmat featuring:
- Moana - Of Motunui
- Mickey Mouse - Wayward Sorcerer
- Cruella De Vil - Miserable as Usual
- Aladdin - Heroic Outlaw
- Maleficent - Sinister Visitor
- Simba - Returned King
Gen Con 2023 Playmat
The Gen Con Finale event is a 3-round Sealed Deck tournament where participants were given six The First Chapter Booster packs to build their decks. They were required to build a deck with a minimum of 40 cards, with no Ink limitations.
The top 8 players of the Gen Con Finale received the following:[5]
- A Ravensburger bag
- 1 pack of The First Chapter Sleeves
- 1 Deck Box
- 1 The First Chapter Starter Deck
- 9 The First Chapter Booster Packs
- 1 set of The First Chapter Illumineer's Trove
- 2 copies of Mickey Mouse - Musketeer (Gen Con 2023)
