Jafar - Striking Illusionist Rulings
Jafar - Striking Illusionist's POWER BEYOND MEASURE allows you to gain lore, similar to the amount of cards you drew even if it was drawn from 1 ability.
- For example, if A Whole New World was played while Jafar - Striking Illusionist is in play and exerted, after drawing 7 cards from A Whole New World, Jafar's ability would allow you to gain 7 lore.[1]
Jafar - Striking Illusionist's POWER BEYOND MEASURE ability is a triggered ability. If resolving an effect of a card makes you lose before you can resolve the trigger, you lose.
- If you have 19 lore, only have 1 card left in your deck, and you played Friends on the Other Side while Jafar - Striking Illusionist is in play and exerted, you will lose the game as you are unable to trigger his ability before losing the game from running out of cards to draw. [2]
- If Jafar - Striking Illusionist was exerted when he was triggered, but somehow readied before his ability is resolved, you will still be able to gain the lore. This is due to the requirements being in front of the "whatever" in the ability text, while the check for if true is after. The resolution does not check if Jafar is still exerted, and therefore you would still be able to use his ability to gain lore.[2]
- However, if Jafar - Striking Illusionist was readied before the card draw, Jafar will not get to trigger as cards are resolved sequentially the way they are written. Similarly, if there was a card that banished Jafar before drawing, Jafar would not get to trigger as he was no longer in play before the card was drawn.[2]
- If Jafar - Striking Illusionist has 4 damage counters and Dinner Bell is used on Jafar, the card draw happens before banishing the character as per Dinner Bell's card text, therefore Jafar's conditions were met and you would still be able to use his ability to gain 4 lore after Jafar is banished by Dinner Bell.[3]
- If you have both an exerted Jafar and a Merlin - Rabbit in play, and you play Be Prepared, Merlin only allows you to draw a card when he leaves play, and since both characters leave play at the same time from Be Prepared, Jafar was no longer in play when you drew from Merlin's ability. Therefore you would be unable to gain 1 lore.[4]
